harris teeter NO super doubles or triples this week

FYI...i have been checking the boards regularly and today someone posted that they have seen the ad and there will be no super doubles or triples this week. i think i'm happy?

so far, so great!

day 5 has come and gone almost painlessly. it was a dreary day and i baby sat my friend's precious baby girl for a few hours and helped my SIL with some couponing questions. time passed quickly. the only difficult time was when a boy from our neighbor came over selling stuff for a fundraiser for his school.
it was hard to say "no".

DH did confess that he spent 74¢ on a cup of coffee while meeting with a friend.

the weekend (days 3 and 4) were pretty good too. i did go to food lion to buy some papers, but with the $3 off snuggle coupons (which made the snuggle free) i felt it was a good investment. and when i walked in, i scanned my MVP card at the kiosk and got $1 off my order! lots of good coupons this weekend. oikos yogurt, coffee filters, and buitoni pasta to name a few of my favorites! spent $11.79 to buy 3 papers, a pack of chicken (it's just so cheap!), snuggle (4 of them), and milk.
had to go to target to pick up a prescription and picked up a few things but used one of my $5 gift cards that i have been hoarding from some of the gift card deals.
spent 63¢ at target on hamburger buns, raisins, sour cream, and a cucumber.


i have decided to share some of my "stockpile" dinners with you through out the month. this could get interesting toward the end!
tonight we had baked ziti, salad, and bread.
for sunday dinner (see photo), i made some orange chicken using some oj concentrate that i have had in my freezer for a while. it was great. instead of fresh rosemary, i used some pampered chef rosemary spice blend i have also had for a while. i made some frozen brocolli and wild rice that we get for free all the time. at the top of the plate is some acorn squash that i bought at the farmer's market 2 weeks ago.
saturday, we had a neighborhood cookout and i took baked mac and cheese.

in today's red plum (charlotte observer), there is a $3/1 coupon for ANY snuggle fabric softener. food lion has these on sale this week 2/$6 or $3 each. the picture on the coupon is the blue box or bottle but since it states ANY, this works on the snuggle "creme" type as well. food lion is currently sold out of the dryer sheets in the blue box, but had a few left of the creme kind. this coupon is also good on liquid type, also on sale for $3. if they are sold out, get a raincheck!

i was going through my coupons today, throwing away lots of expired ones, and i found this booklet. inside is a rebate form for nabisco products. all you have to do is send the receipts with prices circled. products have to be purchased 7/1-12/31/09.
i save all my receipts, so i went back through and i am well on my way to $20!
harris teeter receipts are great because they list the products so well.
the breakdown of what you need is:

i have to admit, it was harder than i thought it was going to be.

homeschooled DD is about to finish the book she's reading, so i was searching for the next one. found a great book i think she will love. (it's called the wind in the wheat)
usually i would go on amazon or ebay and buy it. on ebay it was only $4 including shipping.
but i didn't.
searched the local library database.
no go.
looked to the charlotte meck system.
they have it!
found out i would have to pay to get a card since i'm in iredell county.
called MIL (who lives in charlotte), she said she would be happy to pick it up for me :)

i did have time to list some tupperware on ebay, since i wasn't planning my next shopping trip.
wanted to buy some pop tart coupons.
but i didn't.

tonight, we are having a belated birthday dinner for DS who turned 18! last week.
i asked people to bring food. that's difficult for me.

mccormick spices

i had a few coupons for $1/1 mccormick spices that i was hoping to use at HT super doubles and combine with the current catalina.
(see details on right side)
they expire 10/4 i think.
but that was a no go for the spices i really needed (curry, italian seasoning, and bay leaves)
i used the coupons that were about to expire and got some chili powder ($1.55) and black pepper ($1.65), and made 70¢ on the transaction.
that $3 on your next order will come in handy for my no spend month, which starts TOMORROW!

anyway, if you are in the same boat, i wanted to let you know that target has good prices on spices.
they are mostly around $2.
so i will be using my remaining coupons to buy the spices i really need at target.

i have an announcement.....

DH and i talked about this a lot this weekend, and we think we are up for it.
we have decided to make october a "no spend" month.

what that means to us is that we evaluate every purchase as necessity or want.
we will, of course buy milk and fresh produce.

here are the top ten reasons we have for doing this:
10-i'm really interested to see what's in the back of the freezer.
9-i have enough toothpaste, rice, pasta, and canned beans to last AT LEAST a month :)
8-last week when DH was getting an inspection for DS's car, we found out that an $800 repair is soon going to be needed (although the car is not worth $800, we surely couldn't replace it for that!)
7-we want to prove it to ourselves that we really can survive without amazon, ebay, itunes, starbucks, yellowtail shiraz, and lottery tickets.
6-there's always free movies and cookies at harris teeter.
5-i love deals, but frankly, i'm a little tired.
4-i like the challenge of inventing meals with pantry supplies.
3-the freezer is stocked with harris teeter chicken, green giant vegetables and food lion ground beef.
2-i'm pretty sure i can find some free (with coupons) halloween candy.
1-did i mention my husband is in real estate?????

think green recycle service

in case you missed it, starting october 1st it is ILLEGAL in north carolina to put any plastic bottles with openings smaller than the bottle in your trash.
(this info in the mooresville tribune today)
we have been using think green recycle service for several months now and they give excellent curbside service. biweekly pick up is only $6 per month, and that seems to be a perfect schedule for our family of 4.
they take all plastics 1-7, newspapers, junk mail, cans, boxes....it's amazing how it has cut down on our trash.

went to target last night and was very frustrated with teenage boy checking me out.
he wouldn't let me use 2 MANUFACTURER coupons. the pantene coupon stated "limit one coupon per purchase" which to me means because i purchased 2 bottles of shampoo, i can use 2 coupons.
the target coupons, we all know, say 1 per transaction, which is much clearer.
anyway, i emailed target, got a generic coupon policy email, so i sent email #2. waiting to hear back.
looks like others are having this problem too!

today in the mail i got a say hello to up & up book, filled with coupons for all sorts of things.
up and up is target's new store brand.
