mccormick spices

i had a few coupons for $1/1 mccormick spices that i was hoping to use at HT super doubles and combine with the current catalina.
(see details on right side)
they expire 10/4 i think.
but that was a no go for the spices i really needed (curry, italian seasoning, and bay leaves)
i used the coupons that were about to expire and got some chili powder ($1.55) and black pepper ($1.65), and made 70¢ on the transaction.
that $3 on your next order will come in handy for my no spend month, which starts TOMORROW!

anyway, if you are in the same boat, i wanted to let you know that target has good prices on spices.
they are mostly around $2.
so i will be using my remaining coupons to buy the spices i really need at target.

i have an announcement.....

DH and i talked about this a lot this weekend, and we think we are up for it.
we have decided to make october a "no spend" month.
(to find out more, google "no spend challenge")
what that means to us is that we evaluate every purchase as necessity or want.
we will, of course buy milk and fresh produce.

here are the top ten reasons we have for doing this:
10-i'm really interested to see what's in the back of the freezer.
9-i have enough toothpaste, rice, pasta, and canned beans to last AT LEAST a month :)
8-last week when DH was getting an inspection for DS's car, we found out that an $800 repair is soon going to be needed (although the car is not worth $800, we surely couldn't replace it for that!)
7-we want to prove it to ourselves that we really can survive without amazon, ebay, itunes, starbucks, yellowtail shiraz, and lottery tickets.
6-there's always free movies and cookies at harris teeter.
5-i love deals, but frankly, i'm a little tired.
4-i like the challenge of inventing meals with pantry supplies.
3-the freezer is stocked with harris teeter chicken, green giant vegetables and food lion ground beef.
2-i'm pretty sure i can find some free (with coupons) halloween candy.
1-did i mention my husband is in real estate?????

think green recycle service

in case you missed it, starting october 1st it is ILLEGAL in north carolina to put any plastic bottles with openings smaller than the bottle in your trash.
(this info in the mooresville tribune today)
we have been using think green recycle service for several months now and they give excellent curbside service. biweekly pick up is only $6 per month, and that seems to be a perfect schedule for our family of 4.
they take all plastics 1-7, newspapers, junk mail, cans, boxes....it's amazing how it has cut down on our trash.

thought i would try the old el paso deal (buy 6 get $3 off next chicken or beef) deal with green chiles even though that is not listed in the catalina. i have taco seasoning galore. (i'll be donating some) it worked! bought 6 cans of OEP green chiles for $7.50 got coupon for $3 off chicken or beef. this will be great with the bogo chicken next week. happy :)
easy recipe for enchiladas here. (bet the OEP enchilada sauce works with this catalina too)

next, was wondering about the "smart option" milk at food lion for the buy 6 get the 7th free deal.
that worked too! and it's a better buy because it sells for 2.69 as opposed to $2.99 for the food lion brand. i redeemed a milk credit last week, and they still count the free one toward your 6. so this time, i will really only be buying 5 to get one free. this promotion goes until 10/13.

did the general mills deal, the old el paso deal and the green giant deal!
saw a few friends including one adorable cookie-faced little girl :)
i got all this for $10.36.
but my catalinas for the old el paso and the green giant didn't print.
oh no!
but our davidson harris teeter is so awesome.
i went to customer service to ask about it.
she gave me $6.12 in cash!

target struggles and stuff

went to target last night and was very frustrated with teenage boy checking me out.
he wouldn't let me use 2 MANUFACTURER coupons. the pantene coupon stated "limit one coupon per purchase" which to me means because i purchased 2 bottles of shampoo, i can use 2 coupons.
the target coupons, we all know, say 1 per transaction, which is much clearer.
anyway, i emailed target, got a generic coupon policy email, so i sent email #2. waiting to hear back.
looks like others are having this problem too!

today in the mail i got a say hello to up & up book, filled with coupons for all sorts of things.
up and up is target's new store brand.

and finally, here is a post from abundant food savings about different printable coupons from different zip codes. included in this list is a coupons.com printable from zip 60040 for $1/1 package of gold n plump chicken.

CVS/pharmacy....they're reeling me in

a few months ago i signed up for the CVS email.
this week i got an email that i printed out for either a free hand sanitizer or 1.5 oz bag of nuts. "$1.69 value" it said.
i needed some posterboard, so i decided to go to CVS, get my posterboard and my free nuts.
so, i go to check out.
the nuts are priced at 99¢.
i was pleasantly surprised that $1.69 was still deducted!
so i paid 29¢ for my 99¢ posterboard AND got printout coupons for:
a free 4 pack of CVS batteries, a $25 gift card with new or transferred prescription, and $3 off/$15 or more purchase.

my friend L was telling us that she and her hubby were trying a new eating "plan" that restricted their intake of carbs. she said after a few days, she was so evil that her DH told her to go eat a loaf of bread! anyway, she decided that plan was not for her :)

we love bread at our house and the whole family enjoys having bread with dinner. my first stop at HT is usually the bakery area. i scope out the french breads looking for yellow stickers. the loaf of bread pictured sells for $1.29. if you are early enough to find a day old loaf with a yellow sticker, you can take $1 off that. yummy french bread for 29¢. freezes beautifully.

bloom super doubles 8/19-8/25

rumor has it that bloom will be doing super doubles next week, 8/19-8/25. this means they will double all coupons up to $1.99 value. of course, they don't have prices online and i don't see that anyone has posted an early ad, but if you have some $1 or higher coupons you want to use it may be worth a field trip to check it out. you may want to call to confirm with your store or wait until you get the ad in your mailbox before going. if i do finds lists, i will post them!
