harris teeter $20 grocery credit for new/transferred prescriptions!

i got an amazing surprise at harris teeter today.

you may have noticed at the bottom of your harris teeter receipts a blurb that states, "new pharmacy customer reward! coupon off your next $20 purchase, up to 5 transferred or new RX at this HT only, thru 8/31/10. see pharmacy for details."

i read this and thought that you had to have 5 prescriptions for the $20.
since DS had his wisdom teeth removed on apr 2, i had filled 3 prescriptions for him on apr 1.
so i decided to transfer my little antibiotic prevention prescription to HT and then maybe get to the 5 before 8/31.
i had it all wrong!
when i picked up my prescription, the pharmacist (preeti, who is very sweet, knowledgeable, and helpful) said, " i have good news!". i love how the folks at the davidson HT adore their customers :)
i knew that i wouldn't have to pay out of pocket, because that's how our insurance works.
i said, "it's free?"
she said, "yes, and you get a $20 credit for groceries!"
now i was confused.
i knew that i had only had 4 prescriptions.
she explained to me, "you get $20 for each prescription, up to 10 per household."
so, i asked her about my son's prescriptions, filled on april 1st.
she checked her computer, while asking me, "he had his wisdom teeth out, right?"
again, i love my davidson HT.
she said, "yes, you get $20 for each of those prescriptions too, we just didn't have the punch cards when you had them filled!"
so i ended up with $80 in credits for groceries.
WOW.
so in 10 minutes, i went from only looking for the "free with coupon items" (tomorrow is payday, nuf said), to "how can i spend $20?"
*you can only redeem one $20 reward per transaction.
of course i had my list, ready for payday, and all my coupons.
so i ended up spending $3.52 for $81.72 worth of groceries!
and my cashier was genuinely happy for me.
the end.
until tomorrow.

cute zippered pouches for the cash envelope system

for the past few months, our family has been using the dave ramsey cash envelope system. and we love it!
i've been keeping the cash in some ziploc bags, but when we go out shopping it can be kind of embarrasing and it's hard to zip the bag back while still discreetly concealing it in your purse.
so i saw this link to etsy on a blog i occasionally read called budgets are sexy.
aren't these cute?
i have decide to try and make some.
next time you see me, ask me if i did yet.
i want to be held accountable.
here's a tutorial on how to make them.
i'm hoping some one will post a printable coupon for hancock fabrics here.

God gave me you

dedicated to my DH, warren :)

dave barnes writes amazing "family" love songs.
about falling in love, being in love, and staying in love.
(dave's wife appears in the video at the end)
my husband i are blessed to have this kind of love.
not because we were just lucky.
not because we really work at it.
because we pray for it, we choose to have it, we won't have it any other way.
i read this article recently and i thought it was excellent.
it's called "anyway love".
it encourages us to love like Jesus, not "because",
but "anyway".

food lion 4/19

another excellent trip to food lion.

the best part was the london broil.
i had the text coupon for $2 off/$10 , then i checked the kiosk at the front of the store...coupon there for $1 off/$10!
so for a 2.33 lb london broil
regularly $10
on sale for $4.62
-$2 text coupon
-$1 kiosk coupon
i ended up paying just $1.62!

a couple other deals:

there is a coupon at the kiosk for $1/$10 holly farms chicken, which is on sale this week for $1.59/lb.
remember, the $10 qualifying purchase is before the mvp discount.
you will have to buy 2 packages, because the pre mvp cost is around $6-7.
sale price around $3 a pack.

sunchips on sale for $2.99
buy 2, get a free food lion reusable grocery bag.
i had a "free" bag coupon from facebook.
so for $2.99 i got 2 bags of chips and a bag.

there is a "buy 10, get $10 back" promotion on kellogg's, sunshine, morningstar farms, and keebler. i used this deal with some $2/2 cracker coupons from a tearpad, a poptart coupon from the 3/28 RP , and a morningstar farms coupon from the harris teeter penquin.
it's hard to tell what exactly is included in this, they have a picture posted, but it says "select varieties".
this is an instant rebate, not on your next order.

jif natural peanut butter $2.35
use the $1/1 FLIP
final price $1.35

natures place organic beans $1.38
use the $1/1 FLIP
final price 38¢

overall, i spent $21.54 and saved a whopping $49.19 :)

food lion nature's place $1/1 coupon

go here to take a quiz (or skip the quiz and get it here) and get a $1/1 printable coupon for any nature's place product.
i'm gonna use mine on organic beans, which sell for a little over $1, but this would be great for pasta, milk, lots of things!
*note*
there is a big black rectangle that prints after the coupon, so use a short sheet of paper or press cancel after the coupon prints.
food lion corporate has been emailed by the folks at hot coupon world so hopefully they will fix it.
i think that has been fixed!

cheese deal at harris teeter

jane emailed me this deal.
buy 3 kraft cheese, get $3 off instantly.
beside the cheese at HT there are 75¢/1 coupons for the 100 calorie packs of cheese. unfortunately, these start with a 9 and will not double.
so look for blinkies at food lion (not sure they have them, i have not been) or i found a tearpad at lowes foods for 75¢/1.
they have these blinkies at food lion too (shearers road).
these 100 calorie packs are priced at $2.79.
buy 3, use 3 coupons...
final price 29¢ each.
i'm thinking these would be good to toss in a salad or for snacks.
thanks jane!
