if you need some wine for your christmas dinner or a gift, let me remind you about the walmart wine.
the brand is "oak leaf" and walmart has several varieties.
every one we have tried is quite tasty and my research tells me that they get good reviews from folks who really know wine.
read one here.
and a funny one here.
the wines are amazingly priced at $2.97.
my favorite is the shiraz and my DH likes the cabernet sauvignon.
as for the whites, the zinfandel and pinot grigio are excellent.

erin's comments about the pinot grigio:
I think I am a red wine drinker. It was good because Mick really liked it, but I was dreaming of the cabernet the whole time which Mick doesn't really like. So, I might try a chardonnay next time and let you know. It is all for research so we can give the people the best information!

maybe you night owls can get this.
i just found it and am assuming it's just for today.
*looks like it's still good today 12/19!*
amazon.com had john mayer's new cd "battlestudies" mp3 download for just $3.99.
my DH loves his music.
i have been so impressed with amazon's music download's.
and you can easily drag them to your itunes.
or with the amazon mp3 downloader, you can send them straight to your itunes.
they give me music credits, and always have good deals going on.
like the 25 days of free christmas music.
or 100 albums for just $5.

go here to get the john mayer.

he has arrived at the mooresville HT

And with this Christmas wish is missed
The point I could convey
If only I could find the words to say
to let You know how much
You've touched my life
Because here is where You're finding me,
in the exact same place as New Year's eve
And from a lack of my persistency
We're less than half as close as I want to be

And the first time
That You opened Your eyes
did You realize that You would be my Savior
And the first breath that left Your lips
Did You know that it would change this world forever

And so this Christmas I'll compare
the things I felt in prior years
To what this midnight made so clear
That You have come to meet me here

To look back and think that
This baby would one day save me
In the hope that what You did
That you were born so I might live
To look back and think that
This baby would one day save me

And I, I celebrate the day
That You were born to die
So I could one day pray
for You to save my life

i recently had an "ah-ha" moment in regards to harris teeter's buy one get one free coupon policy. as we all know, the policy states, "one coupon per buy one get one free item". i used to make way too many trips to buy one (at half price) and use my one coupon at a time.
but then i had a revelation... to buy 3 items, and use 2 coupons.
i'm sure i am saving just as much considering the amount of gas and time i was wasting the other way. and i'm still getting a good deal.
now i do this for practical things that i really need, like last week's nature's bread and skippy peanut butter.
for stuff that i really don't need stock of, like cookies and ice cream, i will continue to just buy one and use one coupon.

have you checked the list of food lion coupons lately?
there are some good ones out.
here are a few of my favorites...

thanks, for the mommas.

i found this blog when i was researching my "no spend month". it's about simplifying.
this post entitled, "holly, jolly" struck a cord with me. although i don't have the busyness of small children anymore, i have been stressing about “how am I supposed to do all of these Christmas-y things I want to do, when our funds are extremely limited?"
hope you like it too.

today is an excellent soup day.
here's a recipe that i created for cheesy potato soup.
it's creamy and cheesy and warms your soul.
please don't judge me for using velveeta :)

did you print your bogo free egg coupon?
take it to walmart where they have eggs 68¢/dozen.
so 2 dozen eggs for 68¢!

they still have great value butter for $1.50
over the moon milk for $2
the 3 lb bag of cuties oranges was $4 (this coupon may be gone)

of course, on friday morning, it was a ZOO!
but we did see several people we knew and chatted with them :)

they are all manufacturer's coupons, so you should be able to use them anywhere.

*i tried several times to register for this and it kept telling me my birthday was invalid!
so...when you register, just don't fill in your birthday and it will work fine.

today i learned about price matching.
i was going to get some kraft marshmallows using the $1/2 target printable and a price match from walmart that would make them $1 each. the normal target price is $1.19.
i went to check out and the cashier told me that price matches have to be done at customer service, but that she could check me out, then i could get the difference refunded.
so, i paid $1.19 x 2 = $2.38 - $1 = $1.38 for 2 or 69¢ each.
then, i go to customer service to get my 38¢ price match refund and the girl is totally confused. when she rings it up to do the price match, it tells her i owe her money.
because of the crazy way the target coupons adjust the price on the receipt, it looks to her like i paid 69¢ each and the walmart price of $1 would increase the price. i laughed and told her not to worry about it, i would just go to customer service first next time.
so...
the moral of the story is, if you have a price match, go to customer service and let them do it!

footnote:
DD says it's a shame it didn't get the 38¢ back because i probaly could have bought 50 boxes of cereal with it :)

we'll we didn't quite make it a whole month.
28 days, i think.
we spent about $42 a week on milk and necessities.
and $25 on gas per week.

here are top ten things i learned...

1-starbucks is about more than a cup of coffee.
it's relationships, it's memories.
for my DH and my DD, this is "their thing". they get all happy when walking around target with that warm cup o' joe. i still remember my daddy taking me to the candy counter when i was a little girl. those few ounces of chocolates with white sprinkles in that paper bag. i'm tearing up. okay, let's move on.

2-$3 wine from walmart is excellent.

3-eating food already made is so boring. we were eating a lot of meals like chicken, rice, frozen vegetable. beef, mac and cheese, and canned vegetable. i think from now on, i'm going to concentrate on stockpiling ingredients, and not prepared food.
of course, picky eater DS loved it!

4-i need to cook for my sanity. chopping, stirring, researching recipes, trying new stuff, that's what i love. that's who i am.

5-too much processed food (and lets face it, that's mostly what you can stockpile) can mess up your digestive system. i'll just leave it at that.

6-I DO NOT like ragu pasta sauce, marie callendar's frozen meals, canned biscuits, bagged iceburg lettuce, most frozen vegetable medleys, or sunny delight smoothie juice. in other words, just cause it's free, don't feel like you HAVE to bring it home.

7-if you really want to show me some love, gift me with a piece of fresh produce.

8-it's nice to know that it can be done if you have to. that the supplies are there if you can't afford to go shopping or if you are sick or something.

9-DH was proud of me/us, but also annoyed that i asked him everyday "did you spend any money?"

10-i don't think i'll be having another
"no spend month" for a while.
at least not on purpose.

here's a coupon for sister schubert's rolls!

go here to read jenny's post on some great coupons.
i like the soup one!

this from PHmom at hot coupon world:

I got this catalina today and it is pretty awesome (when combined with sales and coupons, of course) so I am giving it it's own thread!

It does not give a start date so I guess it has already started but it runs all the way through May 8th 2010!!

Spend $20 on any Kraft cheese or dairy products and received a $2 grocery coupon. Purchases can be made over multiple shopping trips. I am guessing this is tied to your MVP card so they can track the purchases as well as how many coupons you receive (there is a limit of 25).

Participating brands:

Kraft singles
Kraft Natural cheese (shreds, chunk, snacking, slices)
Philadelphia cream cheese
Kraft deli fresh natural slices
Kraft deli deluxe slices
Velveeta
Polly-O cheese (string, mozzarella, and ricotta)
Cracker Barrel cheese
Digiorno cheese
Athenos feta
Breakstone cottage cheese and sour cream
Knudseon cottage cheese and sour cream
Kraft dips
Kraft grated parmesan
Cheeze Whiz

Small print:

After each $20 purchase requirement is met, grocery coupon will be delivered at checkout printer within one week. Limit 25 grocery coupons per participant.
