excuse me, i have some shopping to do...!

took a trip to harris teeter in davidson this morning.
here's some valuable info for you!

pepsi 12 packs bogof at davidson ($3)
pepsi 4/$10 in mooresville ($2.50)

today, harris teeter had the del monte gold fresh pineapple.
75¢/1 coupons for these come out now and then.
in the past, the fresh pineapples were dole brand.

finally, keep your eyes peeled for coupons and special offers with the holidays coming.
i found "$1.25/any 3" coupons for jello/baker's chocolate/cream cheese (near the gladware display close to the wine), and lots of wine tags with coupons for nuts, cheese, shrimp, beef, and turkey. most say "no wine purchase necessary"!

happy shopping :)

take a look around for some interesting gifts (many inexpensive!) for yourself or those you love. look for some trendy teen items. and feel good about shopping. i ordered some things from greater good last year and they were all wonderful. and excellent customer service too.

walmart currently has a big display of glade candles on rollback for $2.25.
i really like these little candles. they burn about 3 hours, have a wonderful smell, and i feel like they are really safe because you burn them in the tin holder.
open up those little tin candle holders and you may find inside a $1.50/1 coupon!
this coupon can be used on the tin or the refills.
or go here to print some coupons.
(you have to fill in your address below the coupons)
buy 3 and submit for the SC johnson $5 rebate!
you can do this rebate 3 times before 7/15/2010.

also kim emailed me and said she found some nice cantaloupes for 98¢.
i'm gonna have to go back...
thanks kim!

oh, and butter is still $1.50 :)

we'll we didn't quite make it a whole month.
28 days, i think.
we spent about $42 a week on milk and necessities.
and $25 on gas per week.

here are top ten things i learned...

1-starbucks is about more than a cup of coffee.
it's relationships, it's memories.
for my DH and my DD, this is "their thing". they get all happy when walking around target with that warm cup o' joe. i still remember my daddy taking me to the candy counter when i was a little girl. those few ounces of chocolates with white sprinkles in that paper bag. i'm tearing up. okay, let's move on.

2-$3 wine from walmart is excellent.

3-eating food already made is so boring. we were eating a lot of meals like chicken, rice, frozen vegetable. beef, mac and cheese, and canned vegetable. i think from now on, i'm going to concentrate on stockpiling ingredients, and not prepared food.
of course, picky eater DS loved it!

4-i need to cook for my sanity. chopping, stirring, researching recipes, trying new stuff, that's what i love. that's who i am.

5-too much processed food (and lets face it, that's mostly what you can stockpile) can mess up your digestive system. i'll just leave it at that.

6-I DO NOT like ragu pasta sauce, marie callendar's frozen meals, canned biscuits, bagged iceburg lettuce, most frozen vegetable medleys, or sunny delight smoothie juice. in other words, just cause it's free, don't feel like you HAVE to bring it home.

7-if you really want to show me some love, gift me with a piece of fresh produce.

8-it's nice to know that it can be done if you have to. that the supplies are there if you can't afford to go shopping or if you are sick or something.

9-DH was proud of me/us, but also annoyed that i asked him everyday "did you spend any money?"

10-i don't think i'll be having another
"no spend month" for a while.
at least not on purpose.

here's southern savers list of this sunday's coupons.

DH and i took a trip to the davidson harris teeter this morning.
this week, harris teeter has EZ peel white shrimp (51-60 count/lb) on sale for $3.99 in the seafood department.
we got a pound and asked the guy to steam them for us.
while we were waiting, we saw a wine display close by.
on the bottles of wine were $1 off shrimp coupons.
the wine was $11.99 i think, too pricey for me!
so i read the coupon, NO WINE PURCHASE NECESSARY.
sweet...
we did buy a cheaper bottle of wine, and the coupon did not beep.
if you don't buy wine, just show the cashier that the coupon says you don't have to buy the wine.

read jenny's post here
about how to get a free
chik fil a calendar.

i forgot to tell you that harris teeter has their brand of frozen fruit
on sale for $1.87!
that's for a pound of berry medley, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, or 12 oz of raspberries. we love frozen fruit for smoothies. and i'm pretty sure this is a great deal.
*they have peaches and cherries too!

looks like there will be 2 inserts this week.
to see the breakdown, go here to southern savers.
thanks jenny!

went over to the mooresville harris teeter this morning while DD was at her njoy science class.
i was super careful with the coupons i chose to use, didn't even try any "do not doubles".
they were out of the heinz ketchup.
and the bagels that go with the "meal deal".
and the harris teeter sugar.
and muellers spaghetti.
and both kinds of tuna i had coupons for.
so...
first i went to customer service and asked if there was a substitute for the bagels. he said, "yes, the refrigerated 5 count of harris teeter bagels".
make sure that you tell the cashier, she has to punch in some special code.
can we talk about the meal deal?
i think harris teeter has offered some good things with this weekly promotion.
some gross stuff too, but mostly good deals.
this weeks deal:
orange juice, bacon, bagels, cream cheese, and hash browns.
all for $5.99. (pick up a flyer on your way in to make sure you pick up the right stuff)
i don't think i have ever used the "meal" as a meal, but the items are great.

today for lunch, DD and i made some bagel sandwiches.
i topped mine with some turkey (from the hillshire deal a few weeks ago, it had been in the freezer), cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, and some cream cheese mixed with pampered chef all purpose dill seasoning.
DD just had cucumbers and cream cheese.
yummy!
the last time i bought those HT frozen hashbrowns (they are cubed potatoes) i made a wonderful potato casserole.
--------------------------
dole mandarin oranges (15 oz can) on sale 5/$5. not marked, but i thought i had read that. usual price is $1.65 so with my 50¢ coupon tripled (play the flip a fruit game here), still a good deal.
but free is better, and they were :)
--------------------------
i got some pepperidge farms cinnamon swirl bread for 85¢ (use the 55¢ coupon in the "share something delicious" booklet from the davidson harris teeter, near the bread). i think i'll use that for a french toast dinner sunday night. maybe with the bacon from the meal deal.
--------------------------
mazola olive oil spray bogof or $1.49 each.
use the 50¢/1 from the 10/4 ss.
--------------------------
after checkout, i went and got an e-vic raincheck for my 99¢ sugar.
and another for the 2/$3 sugar.
--------------------------
*if you are making a trip to HT, make sure to check the lists again. they are constantly posting new stuff and updating.

pace yourselves!

just wanted to let you guys know that the ground beef coupon (50¢/1) works fine at harris teeter. it does look kind of weird and empty, but it does not beep!

remember to cook your beef to an internal temperature of 160 degrees.

if you shop at world market, you will want to read jenny's post here at southern savers.
*i also got these in a flyer in wednesday's mail*

did you get the e-vic email saying that you can get $2 off college inn broth?
if you did, then you are also going to want this printable $1/1 coupon here.
use zip 60160 if you don't see it. there's also a handy "brand" selection at the top of the coupon site.
this broth sells for $3.19 at harris teeter.

almost forgot about food lion with the excitement of harris teeter triples...oops!
anyway, there's not too much to be excited about with food lions specials this week.

i don't enjoy walmart.
but in sunday's flyer, i saw that they had great value butter for $1.50.
butter is a staple in my house and i was almost out.
so DH and i went last night to the mooresville walmart.

i had 5 coupons with me.
i left my coupon box at home because half of the coupons were spread out over the table in the den, getting ready for HT triples!

as we walked in, there was a mountain of beautiful sweet potatoes, 48¢/lb!
campbell's cream of whatever soups on sale for 58¢.
use the printable $1/2 coupon available in the database.
over the moon milk, was $2, now only $1.66!
do you have any $1/1 coupons left from the 10/18 ss?
i think there is a printable too.
got the butter $1.50/lb.
panoxyl soap, great for teens with acne, it really works!
it's in the cosmetic section $5.97.
use the $2/1 in the 9/13 ss.

a few weeks ago, i received an email from a reader asking me what i thought of aldi and bottom dollar. i told her that i had shopped at aldi, but had never been in the bottom dollar.
so this weekend, DH and i ran in to pick up one thing.
i noticed that they had a decent produce section.
it's actually a "produce cave" COLD IN THERE!
remember i told you about the $10/$30 coupon i got in the mail from bottom dollar?
i had originally thought that i would use it at harris teeter (that is allowed!) but decided to go to bottom dollar on plaza drive and load up on produce.

coming out of my no spend month, i NEEDED it!

the prices were great i thought.
the quality good to great.
(click on the picture for a closer look!)
and everything i saw was from the USA, which to me means that it is fresher and the pesticide levels are regulated.
here's a few examples:
bananas 39¢/lb
red onion 99¢/lb
yellow squash $1.49/lb
portabella mushroom caps (3 in a pkg) $1.98
cabbage 33¢/lb
grape tomatoes $2.49
baking potatoes 89¢/lb
lemons 33¢
eggplant $1.29/lb
bosc pears $1.29/lb
cucumbers 44¢
roma tomatoes 97¢/lb
celery $1.29
jalepeno peppers 99¢/lb
red grapes $1.99/lb
strawberries $2.49
3 lb yellow onion $1.69
and
milk $2.33
half and half (16 oz) $1.38

i tried to keep my total at $30, but i went over by $5.36
so, i used my coupon and with tax, paid $25.87 for all that!

*things to know about bottom dollar*
-you must have a membership card to use that coupon. go here to sign up and get a printable one until they mail you the real one. they have an email you can sign up for too.
-they charge for grocery bags (5¢ each), so bring your own or use one of the boxes that they have free at the entrance. produce bags are free.
-they do accept manufacturer coupons. although i think the things i use coupons on i could get cheaper at harris teeter with a sale and double coupons.

so it was a great experience :)

pretty well!
last week, we spent 71.12 and that includes $25.00 for gas and $4 for papers.
this week, our total is only $66.64. $25.15 of that was gas. i got an extra paper from my MIL.
since i have been staying home so much, i am still on the tank of gas i got on 9/30! and i think i will make it through the end of the month without filling up.

yesterday i went to food lion. i didn't buy only things i needed, but things that were very good buys.
for instance, hamburger buns on sale 77¢. use the $1/2 coupon to get them for 27¢.
eggs, regular price $1.22, use the $1/1 coupon for 22¢ eggs.
DH had recently requested some instant oatmeal. on sale for $2.50 (look for the bonus pack of 12) and use the food lion coupon for $1/1.
coupons for those here.
i did need an onion, so i got that.

and i wanted to try the ground beef coupon (for you) to make sure it wouldn't beep.
so i got some ground round (on sale for $1.88/lb) 1.07 lb for $1.51.
i was making the special pasta for DS so i splurged on some ronzoni rigatoni, even though i could have substituted some penne i already had. it was regular price $1.39, but there are 50¢/1 blinkies right in front of them. and i got some parmesan cheese (on sale $1.79) for the pasta as well.
he loved it and said it was "scrumptious"! the cheese bread that goes with it was to die for. i had to put on my sweats after dinner because my tummy was so full :)

this morning i went out, back to food lion for more eggs, and to check the price on some pillsbury pie crust that i needed for "pie day" at church tomorrow. food lion's price $2.59, harris teeter $3.25. picked up another small pack of ground round too.

then to harris teeter.

if you go to harris teeter (davidson) look for the pepperidge farm display near the bread. there were coupon booklets there that have coupons for puff pastry, cookies, bread, and campbell soup.

dinners have been kind of boring.
frozen veggies, chicken, mac and cheese, rice, sloppy joes.
that's hard for me because i love to cook and i love trying new recipes!
one night i did make some butternut squash with cheese ravioli.
(see photo)
the recipe calls for tortellini, and it is better with tortellini, but i was thankful for the squash one of my friends brought me!

so, only a few days left. it has been a blessing that there really haven't been any great sales or coupon events.
i really don't know how the ladies who say they only spend $30/week do it. i feel like i haven't shopped at all and have spent on the average $43 on groceries.

maybe the next time i do this, i will have fiqured that out :)

here's the preview from jenny at southern savers...

there are always lists of printable coupons.

ree drummond is going to be on the bonnie hunt show on monday. here in mooresville it's a 11 am, channel 18.
ree is known as the pioneer woman and her blog is so fun.
she cooks, she homeschools, she photographs, she is hilarious!
you can even read "black heels to tractor wheels" aka her and her husband's love story.
i think i love the recipe part of her site best. she takes beautiful pictures of each step and usually makes a funny comment to go along.

tonight i am making ree's pasta alla marlboro man for dinner (she calls her husband "marlboro man"). i have some kissin' up to do with my 18 year old picky eater. last night we had tuna casserole (which i LOVE), so i'm hoping to get back on his good side.

apparently this is a big deal because all the bloggers are posting it.
go to coupons.com to print $2/1 24 oz bag of nestle or wonka candy.
those are big bags.

my candy this year is going to be a little different.
i got some free reese's cups during triples a while back.
i've stashed some free gum and wonka gummies.
and i even got a free canister of happy baby organic puffs for one of my baby friends.
sometimes being frugal means being CREATIVE.

this is a great post, and i love the name of the blog, from couponing to disney.
a great list of deals.
and another from cool deals and savings
AND new target printables (stack with manufacturer coupons) including candy and apples!!!
here's the hot coupon world post on how to use these for the best deals.

can you tell i'm making a target trip this morning?

tonight i was talking to some friends about using our spiritual gifts.
it occurred to me that we need to face each day with purpose, not get trying just to "get through". then i read this from together we save, and i had to laugh!
it's really another way of saying the same thing.
go get 'em girls :)

"OH CRAP, SHE'S UP"!

i didn't get my food lion email this morning that gives me my special coupons.

i don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing with my no spend month.
i sure haven't been to the store very much with the lack of couponing excitement.
so i guess that's good.
here's a post from "foodie" at a full cup.

Hi,

Yesterday when I was a local HT store, the Customer Service clerk told me NO TRIPLES OR SUPER DOUBLE COUPONS FOR WEEK OF 10/21/09 TO 10/27/09. She showed me the new circular ad for next week.

She mentioned that perhaps the week of 10/28/09 to 11/03/09 there might be TRIPLES OR SUPER DOUBLE COUPONS. Since the stores were doing inventory on 11/05/09, they might offer the TRIPLES OR SUPER DOUBLES beforehand.

Not much on sale for week of 10/21/09 to 10/27/09. Mainly BOGOs for cantaloupe, coke products, Sargento shredded cheeses, and other things. I didn't get much time to glance at the ad.

Hope this helps--
