attention target shoppers
word of mouth companies want to give you free stuff!
this is what has shown up in mine over the last 2 weeks.
these are from "word of mouth" companies,
vocal point and pssst!
they send me full sized products for FREE and then i have the
progresso soup...a full sized can plus $1.10/1 coupons.
oil of olay pro x wrinkle smoothing cream, a 28 day supply plus $10 off coupons.
progresso panko bread crumbs plus coupons.
secret clinical strength deodorant plus coupons.
this is all free and there really is no commitment. i mean, i guess if you never give reviews, they may stop sending stuff.
sign up for vocal point here, pssst! here.
no spend challenge day 24!
how's it going you ask?
pretty well!
last week, we spent 71.12 and that includes $25.00 for gas and $4 for papers.
this week, our total is only $66.64. $25.15 of that was gas. i got an extra paper from my MIL.
since i have been staying home so much, i am still on the tank of gas i got on 9/30! and i think i will make it through the end of the month without filling up.
yesterday i went to food lion. i didn't buy only things i needed, but things that were very good buys.
for instance, hamburger buns on sale 77¢. use the $1/2 coupon to get them for 27¢.
eggs, regular price $1.22, use the $1/1 coupon for 22¢ eggs.
DH had recently requested some instant oatmeal. on sale for $2.50 (look for the bonus pack of 12) and use the food lion coupon for $1/1.
coupons for those here.
i did need an onion, so i got that.
and i wanted to try the ground beef coupon (for you) to make sure it wouldn't beep.
so i got some ground round (on sale for $1.88/lb) 1.07 lb for $1.51.
i was making the special pasta for DS so i splurged on some ronzoni rigatoni, even though i could have substituted some penne i already had. it was regular price $1.39, but there are 50¢/1 blinkies right in front of them. and i got some parmesan cheese (on sale $1.79) for the pasta as well.
he loved it and said it was "scrumptious"! the cheese bread that goes with it was to die for. i had to put on my sweats after dinner because my tummy was so full :)
this morning i went out, back to food lion for more eggs, and to check the price on some pillsbury pie crust that i needed for "pie day" at church tomorrow. food lion's price $2.59, harris teeter $3.25. picked up another small pack of ground round too.
then to harris teeter.
progresso soup bogo $1.34, used vocal point coupons to get it for 24¢
go here to sign up for vocal point, free samples and coupons in the mail!
trident layers gum free.
reese's 8 packs 40¢ (8/23 ss 55¢/1)
fun sized candy bars, the e-vic one i got for free, and the other for $1 (i used some peelies for 50¢/1 i got at target)
cheese nips on sale for $1.50 use the $1/2 coupon to get them for $1.
snapples $1.25 each. use the 55¢/1 to get them for 15¢.
HT raisins, unreal deal until 11/3, $1 for a 6 pack.
texas toast croutons on sale for $1. (there is a huge salad in my future)
duncan hines cake mix on sale bogof. 55¢/2 coupon makes them 34¢ each.
herbal essence mousse for DD 2/$5, and i had $1/1 coupons
picked up some more birds eye vegetables (free with 10/18 ss coupon)
sargento cheese, stew meat, and coffee creamer for DD (printable coupon here) were some other things i purchased.
i got a bunch of stuff with some good coupons and only spent $12.83.
saved $49.30.
if you go to harris teeter (davidson) look for the pepperidge farm display near the bread. there were coupon booklets there that have coupons for puff pastry, cookies, bread, and campbell soup.

dinners have been kind of boring.
frozen veggies, chicken, mac and cheese, rice, sloppy joes.
that's hard for me because i love to cook and i love trying new recipes!
one night i did make some butternut squash with cheese ravioli.
(see photo)
the recipe calls for tortellini, and it is better with tortellini, but i was thankful for the squash one of my friends brought me!
so, only a few days left. it has been a blessing that there really haven't been any great sales or coupon events.
i really don't know how the ladies who say they only spend $30/week do it. i feel like i haven't shopped at all and have spent on the average $43 on groceries.
maybe the next time i do this, i will have fiqured that out :)

pioneer woman cooks on bonnie hunt show
ree is known as the pioneer woman and her blog is so fun.
she cooks, she homeschools, she photographs, she is hilarious!
you can even read "black heels to tractor wheels" aka her and her husband's love story.
i think i love the recipe part of her site best. she takes beautiful pictures of each step and usually makes a funny comment to go along.
tonight i am making ree's pasta alla marlboro man for dinner (she calls her husband "marlboro man"). i have some kissin' up to do with my 18 year old picky eater. last night we had tuna casserole (which i LOVE), so i'm hoping to get back on his good side.
$2 candy coupons
go to coupons.com to print $2/1 24 oz bag of nestle or wonka candy.
those are big bags.
my candy this year is going to be a little different.
i got some free reese's cups during triples a while back.
i've stashed some free gum and wonka gummies.
and i even got a free canister of happy baby organic puffs for one of my baby friends.
sometimes being frugal means being CREATIVE.

spiritual gifts...
tonight i was talking to some friends about using our spiritual gifts.
it occurred to me that we need to face each day with purpose, not get trying just to "get through". then i read this from together we save, and i had to laugh!
it's really another way of saying the same thing.
go get 'em girls :)

harris teeter no super coupon events again :(
i don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing with my no spend month.
i sure haven't been to the store very much with the lack of couponing excitement.
so i guess that's good.
here's a post from "foodie" at a full cup.
Hi,
Yesterday when I was a local HT store, the Customer Service clerk told me NO TRIPLES OR SUPER DOUBLE COUPONS FOR WEEK OF 10/21/09 TO 10/27/09. She showed me the new circular ad for next week.
She mentioned that perhaps the week of 10/28/09 to 11/03/09 there might be TRIPLES OR SUPER DOUBLE COUPONS. Since the stores were doing inventory on 11/05/09, they might offer the TRIPLES OR SUPER DOUBLES beforehand.
Not much on sale for week of 10/21/09 to 10/27/09. Mainly BOGOs for cantaloupe, coke products, Sargento shredded cheeses, and other things. I didn't get much time to glance at the ad.

Hope this helps--

printable coupons...be on the lookout!
as i am using my pantry supplies, i like to use the website allrecipes.com to enter ingredients and get recipe suggestions. i noticed the other day that on the right side, different advertisements came up, some with links to printable coupons. on allrecipes, i saw coupons for mccormick spices, cookie dough, bisquick, and more. look at different recipes for different ads.
another place, i heard about from freebies 4 mom, is yahoonews.com. got a coupon there for $1/1 new progresso high fiber soup. this is on sale at HT this week bogof or $1.34 each. use the coupon for cheap soup! also coupons there for crescents and grands.

walmart 10/16
yep, it was $2 for the 1/2 gallon, use the $1/1 coupon for cheap milk.
also they had some nice apples (all kinds) on sale for 88¢/lb.
of course, it was a ZOO in there on friday afternoon....especially since it's race week in charlotte!
and by the way, their prices are not always cheaper.
i'd say not even generally cheaper.
for instance, 10 lb sugar 4.79 at walmart, 4.29 at food lion!
cheez its 2/$5, nothin' special.
pop-tarts $1.87, but when HT will double your 55¢ coupon, better at HT even with HT regular price of $2.19 (but they are on sale almost every week, this week $2).
now, the $2.79 wine, that's a deal!!!
food lion sneak peek 10/21
i'll post this again next week, but here's a sneak peek.
our ad seems to be a little different than this one, especially the meat department.

back in the day when the real estate business was great and DH and i spent money on a lot of frivolous things, a cold drink at check-out was a given. dang, think of all those $1.25's.

no spend challenge....weekend shopping
i stayed home on friday, but DH went to a meeting and bought a $2 cup of coffee on the way. i couldn't be too upset though, because he was going to meet with my daddy about moving to mooresville!
yesterday DH and i went to the davidson harris teeter. did the meal deal with the $2 off coupon for the hormel meat. don't know how that will be, but the nutrition info wasn't horrible and i thought that was a lot of food for $6. happy to have the big bag of salad! also got the 57¢ nestle cookies and some cinnabon bars (i love those!) with a coupon my dad sent home with DH. also needed some poptarts.
* on bottles of yellow tail shiraz, there were hangtags for $2 off beef, got a couple of those and one on some other wine for $1 off chicken. the beef coupon says "no wine purchase necessary"! so look for those.
total spent $9.51.
after lunch on saturday, we went to bj's and got some grape tomatoes (2 lbs) and an 18 pack of land o'lakes eggs. i had a coupon for free eggs that i got when i hosted a land o'lakes house party a few months ago. house parties are a way companys promote their product and the hostess gets lots of free stuff. check out their website here.
total spent at bj's $5.67.
then to walmart for the wine, and some butter.
total spent $8.62.
today, while DD was at choir, we went to the mooresville harris teeter to get some papers and the e-vic eggs i forgot yesterday. i also saw the HT had 8 pack AA energizer batteries for $4.99 and i had a $2 off coupon, so i got those. the managers at the mooresville HT must really be hard on their cashiers. the young girl practically read each word on my one coupon and then said "those were energizer batteries....i guess there was 8 in that pack, right?" aaaggghhh!
total spent $3.78
papers $4.00
then to target. even though the $2.49 chicken was not listed in our ad, they did have it. it was the extra tender type, but the coupon worked fine with no beeps. bumble bee tuna pouches were still on sale for $1 so i got 2 more of them (free with coupon). and there was a sweet lady handing out coffee sample for market pantry coffee. DH was happy about that since we skipped the usual starbucks. the best part...she was also handing out coupons for a FREE full sized bag of market pantry coffee! so we got that and some bananas, a cucumber, and a 5 lb bag of oranges for $2.99. i had left my pocket book in the car, with my gift cards inside, so we had to pay the full
$7.85.
dinners are still going well.
friday i made tortellini alfredo with peas and bacon.
used more peas than the recipe called for and made my own alfredo sauce. it was pretty good, even better reheated with a few grape tomatoes thrown in for lunch today.
saturday dinner was grilled chicken wraps, mexican layer dip and chips, and annie's mexican macaroni and cheese (i don't think they even make this any more, it was from a box).
sunday dinner is pancakes and al fresco chicken sausage, with some oranges on the side.

frugal saturday night
tonight we had a fabulous evening with the family. DH and i went out shopping this afternoon. went to harris teeter and got a free redbox movie (use code DVDONME...ghosts of girlfriends past...i cried...it was pretty good) and some nestle cookies for 57¢.
then to walmart for some $3 wine. the brand is oak creek and the shiraz is awesome! i think it's my new favorite.
anyway, we all settled in for a movie, some freshly baked cookies, and DH and i sipped a glass of wine.
now that's relaxation!

no spend challenge day 8
my husband's brother invited him to a treat of golf in the mountains today, so in return we had BIL and SIL over for dinner. it is always great to spend time with them. dinner involves a little more planning because BIL is gluten-intolerant.
so i baked the chicken i bought last week at HT. it was lovely! stuffed with a lemon i had and rubbed with olive oil, sprinkled with garlic and onion seasoning.
i had a half a box of quinoa (which is a gluten free grain) and made this recipe for quinoa with chickpeas and tomatoes. it was really good. i substituted a can of diced tomatoes (drained them and used the juice as part of the quinoa cooking water) and topped with feta cheese i had.
also made some mixed veggies and butternut squash topped with maple syrup, walnuts, and butter.
had all that in the freezer.
the only thing i had to buy was a lime for the quinoa recipe!
i went to target today while DD was at her homeschool science class. if you live in the area, the organization is njoyscience. they offer a great biblically-based hands-on program at a reasonable cost.
anyway, used another one of my $5 target gift cards to buy hamburger buns, chicken boullion, sour cream, a lemon, a lime, a box of tissues (had 50¢ up&up coupon from home mailer), and bumble bee tuna pouch (on sale $1 each, coupon $1/1 from smartsource.com). got the 5¢ credit for bringing my reusable bag.
total spent 39¢.
later i went to food lion to do the mccormick deal again. bought 2 garlics and 2 parsleys. had 4 $1/1 coupons. the cashier was messing with the catalina machine and it was stuck. so i told her i was supposed to get a $3 oyno coupon. there was a guy behind me so she asked me to wait a second. i walked over to the customer service desk, new book over there "seasonal wellness", coupons in back! then the bagger girl came up behind me and handed me $3 cash!
our rocky river promenade food lion is awesome!
also bought a smart option milk which qualified me for a free milk next time i go.
spent $4.72.

take your reusable bags to target for a 5¢ credit!
target now will now give 5¢ credit for each reusable bag you use.
doesn't have to be a "target" bag.
they have a little barcode posted beside the register, so make sure your cashier scans it.
food lion mccormick spices
did you know that spices are full of antioxidents?
here are the top 7:
Cinnamon
Ginger
Oregano
Red Pepper
Rosemary
Thyme
Yellow Curry
went up to food lion, hoping to get some cheap spices.
ad says only "select" spices are 30% off.
none of the ones i needed were "select".
oh well.
i bought 2 curry (3.63), 1 italian seasoning (1.90), 1 bay leaf (2.77).
i'm thinking the italian seasoning did not work for the catalina (see right sidebar), because i only got $2 off of my next shopping order.
i was able to print some more coupons from coupons.com, so i will try to figure out which ones ARE on sale and repeat the catalina.
but i really did need those spices!
spent $8.17.
product review -whink hair clog blaster
she got it from her daddy.
this is actually a photo she took of herself...
(how'd she do that?)
more of her photos here.
anyway, you can imagine that this fabulous mane wreaks havoc on our shower drain. but i have found a great product, i've only seen it at food lion. it's called whink hair clog blaster. it works like a dream. a bit pricey at $7.19 a bottle (you use 1/2 a bottle for treatment of a slow drain).
still, cheaper than a plumber!
food lion treasure hunt
you see, the new blinkie machines came yesterday and you could find some good coupons.
DH and i went late last night to get drain cleaner (i am NOT including that in my no spend totals!)
and found coupons for:
glade candles, bogo
50¢/1 ronzoni pasta
25¢/1 rotel tomatoes
$1/1 froot loops or apple jacks
55¢/1 nestle cookie dough (on sale bogo at HT this week)
$1/1 crisco olive oil (food lion had one variety on clearance for $3.41)
unlike the blinkie machines at harris teeter, whose coupons are coded with a "9" and do not double, these coupons are coded with a "5" which means they will double at harris teeter.
have fun!
buying coupons
here's an excellent post from shellie at saving with shellie, about buying coupons. this is one thing i am missing during my "no spend month" as i usually purchase 2-4 sets of coupons from ebay each month.
here's another post that i did.

harris teeter NO super doubles or triples this week
FYI...i have been checking the boards regularly and today someone posted that they have seen the ad and there will be no super doubles or triples this week. i think i'm happy?
so far, so great!
day 5 has come and gone almost painlessly. it was a dreary day and i baby sat my friend's precious baby girl for a few hours and helped my SIL with some couponing questions. time passed quickly. the only difficult time was when a boy from our neighbor came over selling stuff for a fundraiser for his school.
it was hard to say "no".
DH did confess that he spent 74¢ on a cup of coffee while meeting with a friend.
the weekend (days 3 and 4) were pretty good too. i did go to food lion to buy some papers, but with the $3 off snuggle coupons (which made the snuggle free) i felt it was a good investment. and when i walked in, i scanned my MVP card at the kiosk and got $1 off my order! lots of good coupons this weekend. oikos yogurt, coffee filters, and buitoni pasta to name a few of my favorites! spent $11.79 to buy 3 papers, a pack of chicken (it's just so cheap!), snuggle (4 of them), and milk.
had to go to target to pick up a prescription and picked up a few things but used one of my $5 gift cards that i have been hoarding from some of the gift card deals.
spent 63¢ at target on hamburger bu
ns, raisins, sour cream, and a cucumber.
i have decided to share some of my "stockpile" dinners with you through out the month. this could get interesting toward the end!
tonight we had baked ziti, salad, and bread.
for sunday dinner (see photo), i made some orange chicken using some oj concentrate that i have had in my freezer for a while. it was great. instead of fresh rosemary, i used some pampered chef rosemary spice blend i have also had for a while. i made some frozen brocolli and wild rice that we get for free all the time. at the top of the plate is some acorn squash that i bought at the farmer's market 2 weeks ago.
saturday, we had a neighborhood cookout and i took baked mac and cheese.
it was hard to say "no".

are you going to buy the snow white movie?
here's a deal for you if you are planning on buying this movie.
it comes out tuesday.
from common sense with money.
comment from erin:
This was a good deal! I got the movie for 9.99 with the coupon and then I bought hefty plates (50ct) for 1.97 and used a .50 coupon on those so really just 1.47. Just for doing that, I will receive 5 dollars from hefty when I mail in the rebate with my receipt!....

no spend challenge day one
homeschooled DD is about to finish the book she's reading, so i was searching for the next one. found a great book i think she will love. (it's called the wind in the wheat)
usually i would go on amazon or ebay and buy it. on ebay it was only $4 including shipping.
but i didn't.
searched the local library database.
no go.
looked to the charlotte meck system.
they have it!
found out i would have to pay to get a card since i'm in iredell county.
called MIL (who lives in charlotte), she said she would be happy to pick it up for me :)
i did have time to list some tupperware on ebay, since i wasn't planning my next shopping trip.
wanted to buy some pop tart coupons.
but i didn't.
tonight, we are having a belated birthday dinner for DS who turned 18! last week.
i asked people to bring food. that's difficult for me.
hopefully today will be easier!
october brings new printables!
here's a post from saving with shellie with links to print the month's new coupons.
be sure to check my list over on the left side for other sites to check for new ones too.
