just found out that this one does not start until friday.
head's up!

*update* my friend e went to the davidson HT and did this deal. she got her catalina (although there was a problem with the machine jamming!). check your paper. the insert from the mooresville tribune DID have the date as starting today.

harris teeter coupon report 8/12

went to the davidson harris teeter this morning.
had two questionable coupons, a printable 40¢/1 suddenly salad, said do not double on it.
maghen (my lovely young cashier) just scanned it and it went through and tripled!
next i was buying 2 pillsbury pizza crusts. they are bogof.
the coupon was 40¢/2.
again, scanned and tripled.
i love my davidson harris teeter.

harris teeter GM deal NOTE SIZES!

looks like to do this deal, there are certain sizes that work.
note the tiny print at the bottom of the ad page.
for instance, the grands and cinnamon rolls are the 5 ct, crescents, 4 ct size!
tricky.
take your ad with you or pick one up as you go in.

preston went to church!

look at that smile!
can you believe that preston went to church last sunday and thanked everyone for praying for him? wow. he is a true miracle.

his dad journaled, "Prayer Warriors, Preston went to church on Sunday August the 9th. It was a great day. Not only did he go to church, he told the congregation he came to church to sing, “Today is the Day” (by Lincoln Brewster). He then proceeded to sing the chorus a cappella."

praise God and keep lifting this family up with your prayers.
you can visit preston's caringbridge website here.

harris teeter "save $5 wyb 15 select general mills"

you have probably read about this promotion.
are you going to do it?
i didn't think i would until i "ran some numbers".
the only thing i really wanted was brownies, got to have brownies in the house AT ALL TIMES!
but when i figured the price -coupons, then i looked at buying some other stuff and getting the $5 back, the price was about the same.
so why not?

new coupon book at food lion

make sure to stop by the customer service desk at food lion to pick up the latest book "healthy community".
inside you will find store coupons for clorox wipes, greenworks cleaning products, ragu pasta sauce, lipton tea bags, lipton tea to go, breyers ice cream ($1.50/1!), and nature valley nut clusters.
these "store" coupons can be stacked, or used in addition to, any manufacturer coupon you may have.
there are also two manufacturer coupons that you could use anywhere. they are for frito variety packs or wheat thins and crystal light.

also, look for the "natures place" book. it contains manufacturer coupons for bear naked, red rose tea, and kashi cereals or snacks. i found this one near the checkout lanes in a basket.

and don't forget to check the beer section!

was it just me?

hey mooresville people...did your statesville record and landmark have any coupons this morning? mine did not and i'm upset about it!

believe it or not, the beer area of your grocery store is an excellent place to find coupons. i was overjoyed to find the suave shampoo and conditioner on sale for 75¢!
use the $1/2 from the 5/17 or 8/2 RP to get them for 25¢.

hefty bowls on sale bogof or 1.74.
use the 50¢/1 from the 5/17 or 6/21 RP.
final price 74¢.

also picked up a pack of the ground beef on sale for $1.47/lb.

also there are supposedly boxes of kelloggs cereal that contain a "wake up to breakfast" book inside. details here.

weird coupons

here are a couple of unusual coupons that match up with sales this week, but i have tried them both and they work! no beeps!

the first is a kraft salad dressing printable for $1.50/1. it says "publix" on it but i took it to the harris teeter in davidson, asked the manager if it was okay, she said yes, i checked out with no beeps. the salad dressing is on sale bogof (1.57 each). so 7¢ salad dressing!
go here for that coupon.

the next one is a ragu coupon. it is in spanish! i used this one at the food lion at rocky river promenade. they have ragu big jars on sale 2/$4. use this $1/2 coupon and the food lion printable $1/2 for 50¢ spaghetti sauce.
*some food lion printables DO say that you cannot combine them with other coupons, but this one does not. also i have read that you should stack your coupons so that the manufacturer coupon gets scanned first. again, no beeps!

tip: use internet explorer to print these coupons, or if you use firefox, change the "wi" in the address bar to a "wg".

end of summer penne

i don't have a garden...but i have friends who do!
this is an fabulously frugal recipe that i made for dinner last night using some amazing tomatoes that my sister-in-law gave me. i had picked up a small eggplant at the farmer's market last weekend and i got a zucchini at food lion with my 2$/5 food lion printable. it also uses fresh basil and mint, which i have in my herb garden. i already had the cheeses and garlic in my stockpile.
my recipe here.

this is a package of home 360 travel baby wipes from food lion.
they retail for $1.62.
use the "$1.50 off any diapers or wipes" printable here for 12¢ wipes.

food lion internet printable coupons...save your paper and ink! MAYBE NOT A GOOD IDEA AFTER ALL :(

well, i took some of my food lion printables today and went shopping.
all the coupons i had so "smartly" copied and pasted did not scan.
luckily the cashier pushed them through.
but you might not want to take the chance on getting a picky cashier who won't take them.
so...i would advise just printing them from jenny's (southern savers) pdf's.
i'm still learning!

$1 cottonelle toilet paper at harris teeter!

i haven't seen this posted anywhere so i thought i would share. besides, it's a little tricky.
go to cottonelle.com
in the bottom right corner, click "create your own"
(okay, you are going to create a pledge on how you are kind to your behind)
(yes, it's silly, but it will get you a $1 coupon!)
(just do it)
follow all the steps on the left side.
print your coupon for $1/4 pack or larger.
print it again by going back 2 clicks.
take it to harris teeter.
cottonelle on sale for $3, with doubled coupon...$1!

why i love the "buy ahead principle"

recently, my friend's husband decided to throw her an impromptu 29th birthday party.
i asked if i could bring anything and he said, "dip".
now i know from previous get togethers that he loves (we all do actually) jalapeno popper spread from allrecipes.
and, i had seen this amazing recipe for mexican layer dip on the pioneer woman's website (that's her photo, she was nice enought to let me use it!) i wanted to try that as well. it was INCREDIBLE.

anyway, the point of all this is that even though it was last minute, i had EVERYTHING i needed except for some cilantro and a hot pepper! and i had a $1 guiding stars coupon from food lion, so i spent 64¢ to make these two wonderful dishes. all the other ingredients i had gotten free or at a very low price with sales and coupons.
these are the things i had stockpiled:
cream cheese
mayonnaise
parmesan cheese
refried beans
shredded cheese
olives
guacamole (sorry ree, i did use wholly guacamole...it's good!)
sour cream
hot sauce
cumin
green chiles
grape tomatoes (i always have these on hand)
crackers and tortilla chips

looking at that picture i want to go make some right now!
don't you?

*remember, you can only use 1 of each kind of coupon per day*
